Receives National Fine Arts Award For Best Group Project
A group of middle and high school age boys at The Boys & Girls Club of Collier County (BGCCC) recently received the National Fine Arts Award for Best Group Project presented by Boys & Girls Club of America.
Young men ages 10 to 16 were given the opportunity to discover the Renaissance through lessons in art history. In addition to their own individual projects, members created a 24’ x 4’ mural of their interpretation of famous works by Michelangelo, Leonardo Da Vinci, Botticelli, and Raphael.
“We wanted to allow our members to explore the arts in a way that would positively impact their creativity and would reinforce what they were learning about the renaissance,” BGCCC’s Special Programs Coordinator Jason Kurek said. “The final work was a masterpiece that all of the members are very proud of. Their artwork has become an icon at the club which has sparked an interest and appreciation for expression and creativity among all of our many members.”
“I helped with the painting of Michael the Arch Angel.” Peterson, age 15, said. “I learned a lot about Renaissance art by working on the project.”
If you would like the opportunity to view this spectacular mural created by middle and high school age boys, please contact the Boys & Girls Club of Collier County at 239-325-1700 to schedule a tour of the facilities.
